Christine Cannella

Bio

Photography is my passion, pure and simple. I am captivated and transported when taking and processing photographs. I love the history of photography.

I earned a degree in Photojournalism from the University of Kansas in 1973. I worked for two newspapers, The Leavenworth Times in Leavenworth, Kansas and The Kansas City Star in Kansas City, Missouri. I was inducted into the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame in 2020 for my work at the Star.

For many years, I followed a different career path and worked as a psychotherapist. In both careers, I pondered the concept of “the decisive moment.” Henri Cartier-Bresson, a founder of Modern Photojournalism, proposed the concept of “The Decisive Moment” in photography. He said this moment occurs when the visual and psychological elements of people in a real life scene spontaneously and briefly come together. I found decisive moments in the therapy session as well.

As I neared retirement, I made the transition from film to digital photography. I became passionate about shooting sheep and lambs. I am interested in documentary photography, portraiture (including animals) and night sky photography.
